NEWS
What are the benefits
of Shiatsu Therapy?
Shiatsu benefits each person differently, depending
on their condition when they are treated, as well
as their per-existing medical and hereditary conditions.
Generally, Shiatsu stimulates a relaxation or parasympathetic
response in the recipient's body. The nervous system
is stimulated; reducing pain and relaxing muscles.
Respiration becomes more regular, slower and deeper.
Circulation improves allowing the body to warm
up or cool off more effectively and consistently.
Hormones, which help the body maintain a state
of balance, are also affected positively by Shiatsu.
Improved digestion, bowel evacuation and sleeping
patterns are other benefits for the patient. Most
patients say they feel physically lighter, looser
in their muscles and more mentally at ease after
a Shiatsu treatment. The effects of Shiatsu are
usually noticeable up to three days after a treatment.
For general health maintenance, patients are advised
to have a treatment as often as once a week or
at least once every three weeks.
How much does Shiatsu Therapy cost?
Although prices vary according to the practitioner,
a one hour session usually costs from $50 to $60.
Currently, Shiatsu Therapy is not covered by M.S.P.;
however some companies offer extended health benefits
to their employees, which may cover Shiatsu Therapy.
Can Shiatsu benefit certain illnesses and condition?
The benefits of Shiatsu apply to diseases, chronic
conditions, injuries, chemical imbalances and stress-related
symptoms.
For Example:
Appetite control Arthritic pains / Rheumatism Asthma
Backache / Lumbago Blood pressure control /Irregular
pulse Bursitis
Car accident injuries Constipation Diabetes mellitus
Digestive upsets Feeling of cold Frigidity
Frozen shoulder Headaches and migraines Infertility
Sports injuries Insomnia Kidney stones
Menopause Muscular pain or stiffness Muscular spasms
Neck pains Pregnancy / Morning sickness Premenstrual
syndrome
Sciatica Stroke recovery Tension from fatigue
Tension from stress Whiplash
For first time patients
From the beginning to the end of a Shiatsu treatment,
pressure is applied by the Shiatsupractor?'s thumbs,
fingers and palms. The strength used, and the length
of time pressure is held by your therapist will
be varied according to the condition of each area
of your body.
The following are suggestions that might help you
in receiving a more effective Shiatsu treatment
and its understanding.
Preparation:
Please go to the washroom and empty your bladder
before proceeding to the Shiatsu treatment room.
Take off your eyeglasses, wristwatch and any jewellery
such as necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc...
For Professional clinic, you may bring thin clothing
such as T-shirts and shorts to wear during the
treatment (Clothes should be made of cotton rather
than synthetics). Patients who do not bring their
own light clothing take off their clothes, leaving
their underwear on.
We provide sheets in the treatment room to cover
patients during the Shiatsu treatment.
For the Shiatsu treatment in the School clinic,
patients must bring and wear thin clothing such
as T-shirts, a pair of long pants and socks.
To Make the Shiatsu Treatment Most Effective:
Relax and empty your mind. If you can breathe out
as your Shiatsupractor? applies pressure that makes
Shiatsu more effective. ENJOY YOUR TREATMENT!
Notes:
You may expect to feel some change in your condition
the next day, or even the same day.
Don't leave too many days between treatments. The
second treatment should be 3-4 days after the first
Shiatsu treatment. To make Shiatsu most effective,
we suggest a treatment once a week. Don't expect
an instant cure. However, if you do not notice
any changes in your symptoms or improvement
in your condition after a series of 10 treatments,
consult with your Shiatsupractor. To make Shiatsu
part of your maintenance of overall good health,
we suggest a treatment once a week.
