The Shiatsu Academy of Tokyo is one of two facilities in North America offering Shiatsu Therapy Training using the methods of the founder of the discipline, Tokujiro Namikoshi. We offer a diploma to graduates of our professional Shiatsu Practitioner course. The curriculum includes: Shiatsu Theory; Shiatsu History; Shiatsu Technique; Shiatsu Philosophy; Anatomy: Physiology; Pathology; Code of Ethics; Eastern Medical Theory; and Nutrition. TASTE OF THE DANFORTH

Shiastu Diffusion Society (SDS) News
To all SDS Members:
Coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the Taste Festival of Danforth, 12th, 13th, 14th of August, SDS shall be celebrating the event by demonstration and promoting shiatsu, at Carrot Common facility, please find time to join the exciting event. If you would like to share your shiatsu skill through demonstration, please contact Master Kensen Saito, (416) 466-8780 for schedule.

The SDS meeting shall be scheduled on August 20, 2006, Sunday 10:00 a.m. at Shiatsu Academy of Tokyo.

NEWS
Grace Visconti will be producing a series of educational booklets in conjuction with sensei Kensen Saito on various conditions. Testimonials will also be featured of people with the particular condition discussed in the article who have benefitted from the treatments. Each article will be posted in the Application section of this website. An article on Relieving Stress with Shiatsu is now on this site in the Applications section. Click on the first circle. A PDF is made available for downloading in this section. The next article produced will be on Shiatsu and High Blood Pressure. This will be available some time in the fall to download from this site and also available in print through these two locations: the Shiatsu Academy of Tokyo in Toronto; and Grace Visconti (Shiatsu Masters) at the Holy Cross site in Calgary (403) 246-0996.

A WARM WELCOME is extended to Hideaki Kanamaru, another Shiatsupractor who just graduated from the Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy in Vancouver. Hideaki is presently working in a Chiropractor’s office in North West Calgary. He joins Grace Visconti as the second Shiatsupractor in the Calgary region.

Just a reminder that the Garage Sale is next Sunday, Aug. 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is at Kate King's house at 347 East 22nd Street in North Vancouver. We need more donations to make the sale a success. We also could use volunteers to help out during the sale if only for a couple of hours. You can drop off donations to Kate's place. Courses at the Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy of Canada
Curriculum
Shiatsu Foundation
Basic Theory - Basic shiatsu concepts are studied including such subjects as Characteristics of Shiatsu, Shiatsu and Physiological Functions, Operations of the Hands and Fingers, Kinds of Pressure Application, and Contraindications to Shiatsu.
Self Shiatsu - Learning self-administered shiatsu teaches the student basic use of the hands, correct selection of pressure application methods and all the basic pressure points. Practicing self-shiatsu can be part of a preventative and health-conditioning program.
Chair Shiatsu - In this segment, the student learns and practices a 10-minute chair shiatsu treatment as well as a 20-minute chair shiatsu treatment. This is the first time students practice shiatsu on someone other than themselves.
Whole body Treatment - The basic full-body treatment, which takes 75 to 90 minutes to complete, and includes up to 660 points, is learned and practiced. The full-body treatment is taught in stages, gradually increasing the duration of time until the complete treatment is mastered.
Aromatherapy Theory (18 hours)
History of Aromatherapy, how Essential oils are produced, the properties, uses and contraindications of 20 essential oils, client assessment, blending and carrier oils and record keeping.
Massage (45 hours)
Basic Aromatherapy massage - full body treatment
Reflexology (45 hours)
Learn the basics of Reflexology, as taught by a Touchpoint Institute Reflexology Certified Instructor. You will learn all the foot reflexes for relaxation and to assist a person in regaining and maintaining health.
Jin-Shin Do / Acupressure (45 hours)
This course is the first basic level, introducing the world of the JinShinDo bodymind acupressure system. JinShinDo uses a traditional Japanese Finger pressure technique while holding 2 acupoints concurrently.
CPR & First Aid (9 hours)
The students learn and receive basic emergency first aid. The certificate will be issued from the Canadian Red cross.
School Clinic & Field work (385 hours)
Students work at the CCST and at public events treating patients under supervision. They develop skills in taking medical history, treatment planning and Shiatsu techniques. (Prerequisites: the completion of the Shiatsu Foundation course and passing grade in clinic entrance written examination and assessment of the full-body treatment)
